DO 3RD PARTY INSPECTORS SLOW down THE BUILD?

Here’s the truth: If the build is slowed down by a day, it’s worth it to avoid mistakes that can cost weeks on the back end of the build…but it doesn’t usually come to that.

The myth of the Handbreak Building Inspector comes from bad experiences, and that’s fair — inspections that happen too late, reports that are vague, or feedback that arrives after the trades have packed up and moved on. That’s frustrating for everyone.

But that’s not how professional stage inspections are meant to work. That’s not the relationship we have with the builders around here. Our relationships are built on trust and respect, not antagonism or one-up-manship.

As competent, independent building inspectors, we understand construction sequencing. We know when work is complete enough to assess, and when it’s too early to get in there because timing is everything!

Stage inspections are designed to coincide with key construction milestones, not interrupt them:

  • Slab or footing stage

  • Frame stage

  • Waterproofing

  • Lock-up or pre-lining

  • Handover

Each of these stages represents a moment where work can still be reviewed, clarified, and — if needed — corrected before it’s locked in behind concrete, cladding, tiles, or plasterboard.

That’s not slowing things down. That’s keeping momentum without letting problems snowball.
